CyberCenter
In 2004, recognizing the importance of technology and the internet to today’s underserved GLBT communities, the GLCCB applied for funding to the David Bohnett Foundation which has done tremendous work in this area through its CyberCenters. In January of 2005, the GLCCB was awarded a grant to establish a CyberCenter in Baltimore.
The David Bohnett CyberCenters, located in 30 cities throughout the U.S., offer access to the internet and computer classes for the GLBT community. The CyberCenters also serve as a hub for educational opportunities for seniors and youth. The first CyberCenter was opened in 1998 at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center. Its mission of providing software training, classes and Internet access inside a comfortable, informal environment proved so successful that it served as a blueprint
for all 30 CyberCenters around the nation today.
The GLCCB’s David Bohnett CyberCenter features ten state-of-the-art IBM workstations, high-speed internet access, wireless connectivity, high-quality printing and scanning capacity, most popular business, educational, and design software. Affordable hourly rates apply. Classes and tutoring are also offered in a safe, affirming environment.
